Job statistics in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)

  • There were over 8.3 million STEM jobs in May 2014, representing about 6.2% of total U.S. employment.
  • Seven (7) of the ten (10) largest STEM occupations were related to computers.
  • 93 of the 100 STEM occupations had wages significantly higher than that of all occupations.
  • The highest paying STEM occupations were petroleum engineers, (annual mean wage of $147,520) physicists ($117,300); and the three STEM-related management occupations.
